In the highest area of the Penedés, more than 500 meters above sea level, there is a splendid area of vineyards. Known as the "Zone +500", this environment is home to a unique natural biodiversity in the Penedés where the vineyards are naturally found between hills and mountains. Vallformosa collaborates directly in conservation programs for this space and in the recovery of autochthonous varieties that adapt to the conditions of land and altitude.

The grapes from this mountainous area ripen more slowly thanks to the day-night temperature difference which gives them high-quality organoleptic features.

PROJECT PLUS

Vallformosa's technical team analyses different plots throughout the year to find the best vineyards. They involve strains with many years of history, planted freely, without trellis and with a low yield. Their fruits are excellent and give us the highest quality to our products.

These plots are part of the Vallformosa Plus project, which allows us long-term collaboration with wine growers committed to nurturing and delivering quality grapes, with a guarantee of total traceability and with special technical support from Vallformosa.

INNOVATION IN THE TERRITORY

The quality of our wines and sparkling wines is controlled from the beginning of the vineyard cycle. To maintain this quality in a homogeneous way, we use technologies and drones to monitor the growth and ripening of grapes. In addition, the technical team is in charge of visiting and designing the phytosanitary and vegetative actions in each and every one of the plots. Finally, in the wine growers department, and through the open channels of the Yo Soy Vallformosa Club (I am Vallformosa Club) , they design educational and training materials.

CLUB VALLFORMOSA

The work of our more than 500 winegrowers is the essence of Vallformosa. The grape that they cultivate meticulously throughout the year is the base of all our wines and cavas. This is a close relationship that was born with the Yo Soy (I am) Vallformosa Club, a constant meeting place between the winery and the winegrowers. All our winegrowers and their families are part of this Club, where they have access to different services and advantages. We are family!

AN INCLUSIVE COMPANY

Vallformosa is an inclusive company and collaborates with different workforce inclusion projects for people with disabilities, mental health conditions and other groups at risk of exclusion, creating opportunities for community and entry to the labour market. We have collaborated with "Mas Alborná" and the "ARED Foundation” on different inclusive projects.

The quality of our wines and sparkling wines are controlled from the vineyard, focusing on their origin. To maintain this traceability and quality control, all our products are made exclusively, using must from the grapes harvested at our winery.

In line with the achievement of productive excellence, all the wine and sparkling wine production processes are monitored and controlled by automatic control systems (cameras, sensors and analytics). In addition, we monitor and analyse all production data in real time to be efficient.

We are a company that is environmentally friendly and proactive in improving environmental management. The reduction of polluting emissions, the reuse of materials, recycling, saving water or collaboration with sustainable action projects are the main types of action that Vallformosa takes at an environmental level.

SYSTEM SCOPE

Vallformosa determines the limits and applicability of the environmental management system as follows:

• All the products made at the Vilobí del Penedès facilities.

• All the production processes of the product and the facilities and machinery used for these.

• General facilities necessary for the proper functioning of the winery. (Offices, commercial, marketing, laboratory ...)

• Storage facilities for raw materials, materials being processed and finished products owned by Vallformosa.

• Control of the use of authorised phytosanitary products by winegrowers. (Field guideline book).

• Grape reception and related services.

• Waste from the Vallformosa facilities.

•Resources at the Vallformosa facilities (water, electricity, oil derivatives).

• Sewage water.

• Other elements that may affect the Environment (noise, light, emissions to the atmosphere, spills on the ground).

• Activities derived from third parties that work at the Vallformosa facilities.

• Any activity or service provided by Vallformosa, affected by any legal requirement related to the environment.

• ● Any emergency situation that may affect the environment derived from Vallformosa's activity at the Vilobí del Penedès facilities.

Innovation as continuous improvement is part of our DNA and we apply it in all areas of the company. We are leaders in many actions in this area within our sector. We innovate in the creation of new formats, new techniques and processes to control traceability and quality, production, distribution and, also, betting on disruptive communication with the entire Vallformosa value chain (from winegrowers to the final consumer).

In addition, all our collaborators have at their disposal an open innovation platform where they can contribute ideas, proposals for improvement and challenges or through the Lean method, in the production lines. Periodically, all proposals are analyzed and the most productive ones are put into operation.

1865

Vallformosa was born when the vineyards closest to the Masía La.Sala in Vilobí del Penedès, Barcelona, began to be cultivated.

1887

Phylloxera disease devastates the
entire vineyard in the Penedés region.
Vallformosa is one of the pioneers
in the replanting of uncontaminated strains. The winery
receives recognition from Alfonso XIII who visited
the facilities in 1904.

Early 20th century:

Vallformosa begins to make
bulk wine.

1938

The first bottles of
Vallformosa cava are made.

1993

"La Sala" facilities are expanded with
two new and innovative
bottling lines.

The 2000s
Water consumption reduction systems are established, reducing the average for the sector by more than 40%.
2014
Collaboration with winegrowers from old vineyards begins for the production of the Cultivare line. The first Cavas from organic farming origin are launched on the market.
2015

Major investments made to
implement the latest technologies in
the production and warehouse lines.

2016
A collaboration agreement is signed with the Associació de Viticultors del Pla de Manlleu +500, supporting winegrowers in the area.
2017
The Club Soc Vallformosa is created to collaborate with and provide a service to grape suppliers. The Plus Project begins, for the selection of plots with unique characteristics in the +500 area.
2018
12 stainless steel tanks of 300,000 litres with dimensions of 10 metres in height x 4 metres in diameter are installed. The must production facilities are extended with the installation of 2 new pneumatic grape reception presses with state-of-the-art technology. The Optivinya project is launched, where, thanks to remote sensing systems, tools are developed to improve the quality of the harvest and accurately determine the date of the grape harvest.
2020
Construction of the Technology Building which houses the new laboratory is completed.
2021
Vallformosa's entire product portfolio is 100% suitable for vegans, carrying the certification of the Spanish Vegetarian Union (VE).
